Mike Cooley Megapost

One of the most underrated songwriters of all time (imho), Mike Cooley is best known - if known at all - for his work with the Drive-By Truckers. He has written some of the best songs never recorded by the Rolling Stones and Johnny Cash (which will hopefully give you some kind of bearings for what to expect if you are stumbling upon him for the first time). Unlike Patterson Hood of the DBTs, who has any number of solo shows available for your delectation on the awesome archive.org, Cooley's solo shows are rare as rocking horse shit.

If you check in the comments you'll find links to every one he's ever done (afaik).

Cooley makes me laugh, Cooley makes me cry. And he will kick your ass too, musically speaking (and maybe even otherwise if you rile him).

Just what the world needs...

...another blog.

The big difference is...this one is mine. My thoughts, my music.

I've picked a bad day to start. I should be working. I feel like shit. It's not flowing. The phone just rang and i nearly jumped out of my skin. It was my son asking if i could track down an album for him by Ladyhawke. Now there is purpose in my life again - finding, listening to, sharing music.

The thing i love most about the internet is that it makes just about every album ever made accessible to somebody like me with an insatiable appetite for new music and half-decent search skills.

Back to Ladyhawke. Never heard of it / them. Turns out *she* is Pip Brown, a cute New Zealander with mild Aspergers Syndrome and an apparently already very successful first album.

And here's a pretty accurate review of her album: http://www.nme.com/reviews/ladyhawke/9912

And here's someone else's upload of the album:
